Consumer Rights & Disputes
Your Information Matters.
Stonebridge Investigative Group is committed to providing accurate, responsibly researched background screening information. If Stonebridge prepared a background report about you, you have rights regarding the information contained in that report.
If you believe information in your report is inaccurate, incomplete, belongs to another person, or otherwise needs to be reviewed, you may submit a dispute to Stonebridge at no charge.
Federal law requires consumer reporting agencies to provide consumers access to information in their files and to reasonably investigate disputes regarding the accuracy or completeness of reported information.
Request a Copy of Your Report
You may request information Stonebridge maintains about you, including a copy of a background report prepared by Stonebridge when you are entitled to receive one under applicable law.
To protect your information, Stonebridge may need to verify your identity before releasing a report or other information from your file.
If an employer took an adverse action based on a Stonebridge report, your adverse-action notice should identify the consumer reporting agency that supplied the report. Under the FCRA, you may be entitled to an additional free copy of the report if you request it within 60 days of receiving the adverse-action notice.
Dispute Information in Your Report
If you believe information reported by Stonebridge is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to dispute it.
There is no fee to submit a dispute.
You do not need to contact the employer, court, previous employer, school, or other source before submitting your dispute to Stonebridge, and you do not need to obtain another copy of your report before Stonebridge will accept a dispute. The FTC has specifically taken enforcement action against background screeners that created those kinds of obstacles for consumers.
Helpful Information to Include
To help us identify your report and understand the issue, please provide as much of the following information as you reasonably can:
Your full name and current contact information;
Enough identifying information for us to locate the correct file;
The employer or organization associated with the background screening, if known;
The specific information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete;
A brief explanation of why you believe the information should be corrected; and
Copies of any documents you would like Stonebridge to consider.
Do not send original documents.
Supporting documentation can help us investigate a dispute, but you may still contact Stonebridge to initiate a dispute even if you do not have supporting documents available.
What Happens After You Submit a Dispute?
01 — WE LOCATE THE INFORMATION
Stonebridge will identify the report and information associated with your dispute and may contact you if additional information is reasonably necessary to identify you or understand the disputed item.
02 — WE INVESTIGATE
Stonebridge will conduct a reasonable reinvestigation of the disputed information and review relevant information you provide.
Depending on the nature of the dispute, this may include reviewing source records or contacting the organization or source that provided the information.
03 — WE CORRECT INFORMATION WHEN REQUIRED
If disputed information is determined to be inaccurate or incomplete, or cannot be verified as required by applicable law, Stonebridge will modify or delete the information as appropriate.
04 — WE PROVIDE THE RESULTS
Stonebridge will provide you with the results of the reinvestigation as required by applicable law and, when applicable, an updated report.
Under the FCRA, a CRA generally must complete a reinvestigation within 30 days after receiving a consumer's dispute. Certain circumstances can extend the period, including when the consumer provides additional relevant information during the initial 30-day period.
Common Reasons to Submit a Dispute
Contact Stonebridge if you believe a report contains information such as:
A record that does not belong to you
For example, a criminal or court record belonging to another person with a similar name.
Incorrect case information
A charge, disposition, sentence, dismissal, or other court information appears inaccurate or incomplete.
Outdated information
You believe information is being reported beyond an applicable reporting period.

The same event or record appears more than once.
Identity theft or fraud
You believe information resulted from identity theft or another person's use of your identifying information.
Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act
The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act provides consumers with important rights concerning consumer reports.
Depending on the circumstances, those rights include the right to know what information is in your file, dispute inaccurate or incomplete information, have disputed information reasonably reinvestigated, and receive certain information concerning the results of a reinvestigation.
You may also have additional rights under state or local law.
A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act
Consumers are entitled to the official federal Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act in circumstances specified by federal law. Stonebridge will provide the applicable federal notice when required.

Important Information About Employment Decisions
Stonebridge provides background screening information to authorized employers and organizations.
Stonebridge does not make hiring, termination, promotion, or other employment decisions.
If an employer makes a decision based in whole or in part on information contained in a Stonebridge consumer report, the employer has separate responsibilities under the FCRA and other applicable laws.
An adverse-action notice generally must identify the consumer reporting company that provided the report and explain that the reporting company did not make the employment decision.
Questions about why an employment decision was made should therefore be directed to the employer.
Questions about the accuracy or completeness of information Stonebridge reported should be directed to Stonebridge.
